India Poised to Become World's 3rd Largest Economy WEF President

The World Economic Forum (WEF) President, Borge Brende, has expressed optimism about India’s economic trajectory, stating that the country is on track to become the third-largest economy in the world in a few years. Speaking at the B20 Summit in New Delhi, Brende highlighted the importance of continued reforms, better infrastructure, and investment in education for India to achieve this milestone.

“There is a lot of optimism in India, which is also the basis of India’s presidency of the G20.

  • India has been the fastest-growing economy for three years in a row, in the middle of sluggish global growth.
  • India will be the third largest economy in the world in a few years, a 10 trillion dollar economy in a decade, and larger than Germany and Japan in a few years,” Brende said.

He further emphasized the role of open trade and strong global value chains in future prosperity and poverty eradication.

“Global value chains are at the core of future growth and have to be inclusive and adjusted for climate change,” Brende added while addressing the session on “Inclusive GVCs for Resilient Global Trade and Investment” at the B20 Summit India 2023.

This optimistic outlook comes as a beacon of hope amidst a period of sluggish global growth. India’s rapid economic growth, even in the face of global challenges, underscores its resilience and potential to play a pivotal role in the global economy.
