Ajit Pawar: No Permanent Friend or Foe in Politics

In a recent development, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar, made a significant statement during a rally in Beed, asserting that there are no permanent friends or foes in politics. This remark comes shortly after his uncle and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief, Sharad Pawar, declared that there was no split in the NCP and acknowledged his nephew as its leader, only to retract the statement within hours.

Ajit Pawar addressed the rally in Beed just ten days after Sharad Pawar had done so.

  • He expressed optimism that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s charisma would benefit Maharashtra, a state that adheres to secular thoughts. “Nobody is a permanent friend or foe in politics.
  • This is politics,” Ajit Pawar was quoted as saying by PTI. He also extended his gratitude to local leaders of the Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for welcoming him and other NCP ministers.

Ajit Pawar, who joined the BJP-Shiv Sena government last month and was sworn in as the Deputy Chief Minister, clarified that there was no self-interest behind the decision to join the government.

  • “It is our expectation that PM Modi’s charisma would benefit Maharashtra and hence we all decided to join the (BJP-Shiv Sena) government for the benefit of the state.
  • There is no iota of truth in some speculative talks,” he stated.

Ajit Pawar also emphasized that the alliance with the BJP and Shinde-led Sena, known as Mahayuti, was formed to address the people’s problems and foster the state’s development. He assured the people of Maharashtra that the alliance is committed to protecting individuals of all castes and religions.

Sharad Pawar has consistently opposed aligning with the BJP and has indirectly labeled Ajit Pawar and other MLAs as “cowards” without mentioning their names. He also hinted at Ajit Pawar’s early-morning oath ceremony with BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis after the 2019 assembly polls, stating that one should not ask for a second chance to correct oneself.

In response, Ajit Pawar said in Beed, “I am a person who likes to work and like to speak through my work. I won’t respond to comments made against me by anyone.”
