Tensions Rise as VHP Insists on Procession Despite Denial of Permission

The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) remains determined to carry out a procession in Nuh, Haryana, despite being denied permission by the authorities. This decision has led to heightened security and the deployment of police personnel to prevent communal clashes. Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has urged people to offer prayers at their local temples instead of joining the procession.

VHP president Alok Kumar stated that the Braj Mandal Shobha Yatra would proceed as planned and would not stop in Nuh, where section 144 has been imposed following the call for the procession.

  • He added that if the heavy police deployment seen on the last Monday of the Saawan month had been in place on the day of the yatra, the violence that occurred on July 31 might have been avoided.

Mahant Narayan Giri and Mahant Hari Giri of Dudheshwar Nath Mahadev Mutt expressed their intentions to attend the VHP’s ‘Shobh Yatra’ in Nuh, stating that they only intended to perform rituals at the temple and did not seek any confrontation.

  • Meanwhile, Jagadguru Paramhans Acharya from Ayodhya initiated an indefinite hunger strike after being stopped from entering Nuh, where he planned to pay homage to those killed in last month’s clashes and perform ‘Jalabhishek’ in a Nuh temple.

The state government suspended mobile internet services from August 26 to 28, and all schools and banks in the district were closed to restrict movement. VHP spokesperson Vinod Bansal argued that the procession is a pilgrimage and does not require permission. He prayed for wisdom for those who created obstacles during the previous event.

Despite the denial of permission for any group movement or yatra, Haryana Police ADG Mamata Singh warned that anyone attempting to instigate via social media would face consequences. Over 250 accused individuals have been identified and arrested in connection with the July 31 violence, and four Special Investigation Teams (SITs) are conducting investigations based on technical evidence.

As tensions continue to escalate, the Haryana government has taken stringent measures to maintain peace, allowing only locals to enter the district and returning outside vehicles at the border. Section 144 has been imposed, and the police have appealed to the public to avoid movement and warned of strict action against anyone promoting the yatra.
