Tragic Day in Kota Two NEET Aspirants End Their Lives

In a heart-wrenching incident, two NEET aspirants, Avishkar Kasle and Adarsh Raj, took their own lives in Kota, Rajasthan, marking a dark day in the city’s history. This tragic event brings the total number of student suicides in Kota to 24 this year alone.

Avishkar Kasle, an 18-year-old from Maharashtra’s Latur district, jumped off the sixth floor of his coaching institute shortly after completing a test.

  • Despite the staff’s efforts to rush him to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries on the way.
  • The incident was captured on CCTV.
  • A few hours later, Adarsh Raj, a native of Bihar, hanged himself in his rented flat, reportedly out of fear of achieving low marks in the test.

Avishkar had been preparing for the NEET UG exam in Kota for three years and was living with his maternal grandparents in a rented room in the Talwandi area.

  • His parents are government school teachers in Maharashtra.
  • Adarsh, on the other hand, was staying with his cousins, who were also preparing for competitive exams.
  • Although he was still breathing when found, he too succumbed on the way to the hospital.

In response to the incidents, District Collector OP Bunkar instructed the coaching institute to halt all tests for the next two months and install anti-suicide devices in all fans inside the rooms. Additionally, he mandated at least one ‘free day’ per week for students, with no classes or tests.

Last year, 15 coaching students in Kota ended their lives, highlighting the immense pressure faced by students in the city, home to around 3 lakh students from across the country preparing for various competitive exams.
